Long Tail of the housing market

Posted in Uncategorized on May 7th, 2007

If the Long Tail means satisfying a smaller market with a bigger selection of products then the housing market should be a great new addition to the Long Tail of things.  All across this great land more Americans than ever before are falling behind on their mortage payments.  Who is to blame?  Probably both the mortgage companies and the consumers.  When prices of houses were doubling every four days or so the mortagage companies rolled out loan programs that basically would get anyone into a mortgage.  The only problem is that they forgot to look at what would happen when the prices of those same houses nosedived and the interest rates on the loans went through the roof.  What goes up can and will come down.  Just check out the foreclosure numbers for almost every state.  Now for the Long Tail of housing.  A smaller market of who can qualify with a huge increase in the supply of products.  Classic Long Tail especially for those with some money to invest.
