Long Tail of Paris Hilton…say what?
As I was trying to figure out exactly how to apply the Long Tail, using Paris Hilton as an example, to some of our product launches for some reason I wondered (nothing better to do) if there was such a thing as a Long Tail celebrity. You know, where you sell less to more fans. I quickly realized that the basic question is really what makes a celebrity rise to fame. It’s not about a few people going crazy it’s about a ton of people going really crazy. So if I’m on the right path it is all about a celebrity trying to reach as many people (fans) as possible and just getting them each to buy one or two items. Going after a few fans and hoping they each spend thousands is wishful thinking but going after millions and hoping that they each buy one album or download one song now that is the Long Tail working to perfection. So the next time your thinking about how to apply the long tail think Paris Hilton.
