Using Long Tail principals for one of our product releases
In a meeting that I was in last Friday, without even being aware of it, I expounded on the virtues of using the Long Tail as a key to our success with a new product launch. Our new product which is called “Cooperstown Cuvee’” has all the classic attributes of a Long Tail waiting to happen. We are selling less of a limited product to a huge market just because we are limiting the production of the product (in this case wine). By only offering something that less than one tenth of one percent of all the potential collectors could ever buy is indeed a Long Tail ploy fo sorts. A ploy that we hope will be meet by open arms by the few who actually get to purchase a bottle and create mass hystereia among those who can’t find a bottle in the open market. Welcome to eBay home of the worlds largest secondary market for those rare and next to impossible items you just have to have. So if you can’t get your own bottle of Cooperstown Cuvee’ look no further than eBay…in a year or so.
